This highly anticipated matchup ended up being a very long day for the Buffalo Bills. The Bengals 17 point beat down came alongside Damar’s return and the heavy snow. Both of which were assumed to play into the hands of the 6 point home favorite. The reigning conference champs however, played spoiler, and ripped the hearts out of the city of Buffalo and each and every member of Bills Mafia. This one had a bit of everything, including what I think was Burrow’s best performance to date.
It started early for Cinci as the offense was able to move straight down the field on the first two drives. During which, Joe cool went 9-9 for 126 yards and two tuds. Sending a message early and making it 14-0 before the Bills blinked.

Not to be outdone, the Bengals defense balled out as well. Only recorded one sack but were able to consistently get pressure on big Josh Allen with a 44% pressure rate and forcing several missed throws (NGS, 2023). Mike Hilton was the standout on this side of the ball putting out one of his best days as a pro. Blitzing from depth and getting home repeatedly, his presence was definitely felt. Must’ve been the white unis. 🙄
Could’ve Been Worse
The Bengals were also without 3 starting offensive lineman. The same problem the proved to be the achilles heal of a Super Bowl run last season. However, the replacements looked as good, if not better than, the starters had all year. Credit to them and o-line coach Frank Pollack as that unit came in and made the buffalo d-line, who had been formidable, essentially non existent. The loss of Von Miller undoubtedly played a role. I think the snow played a part as the d-line didn’t seem able to get a normal jump. However, the Bengals front didn’t struggle whatsoever. May have just been an all around ass whooping.
Easily the most satisfying win as a Bengals fan. Go into a hostile environment with all the energy and hype behind them. This was supposed to be their year, all year and we got to rip out the hearts of an entire city/fanbase. Doing it in dominating fashion.
Takeaways
My first takeaway is what it always is. What would a Burrow lead offense look like with even just a decent front. I think, this was an example and it’s glorious.
Last takeaway, what are we doing crowning a team that’s never won anything? I always thought the NFL was the last place that didn’t happen. Every team ever worth a damn has had to win something to get any respect in this particular league. I found it slightly disrespectful to the Bengals who have won the conference but we’re the Bengals so I expect it. I found it mostly disrespectful to the Chiefs who have actually won a Super Bowl and been to another. I’m a massive fan of this Bills team. Joshy is easy to root for and seems like a genuinely good dude. But the narrative behind the Bills seemed forced and shouldn’t happen again. That kind of hype needs to be earned. Especially by a team that’s never won more than a mediocre division.
